SOUTH EAST PAST EVENTS
THE MR2 ESSEX RUN - SUNDAY 4th APRIL 2004
Apologies
for the late reporting of this event as we believed Steve was going to write it
but he doesn’t seem to got round to it yet! Meanwhile here is my version of
the event.
We had a call a few weeks before the run from the Drivers Club who asked if they
could join us. Their Skid pan day, arranged for the same weekend had to be
cancelled due to emergency repairs at the venue. We were only too pleased to
have them come along so we thought it a good idea to put out a last minute
invitation to the IMOC members to come and join us also.
The meeting place for the start of the run was at the Little Chef car park, just off
junction 28 of the M25. There were 6
MK1’s and 10 MK2’s in the car park, an awesome sight. Whilst there were
introduced to some of the DC organizers who came along to meet us for the first
time.
Upon departure, the exit from the car park onto the road became very busy. Typical!
This meant that the cars became separated immediately. Although Steve Kingsnorth
took the lead it was impossible to wait for everyone to catch up. Needless to
say some went the wrong way and ended up on the M25 instead of the A12. Steve
lead a convoy through the country roads, Fortunately everyone was handed a map
showing the route and the finish point. Those who went down the M25 were able to
turn back and catch up by heading straight along the A12 and so everyone ended
up together again at the Holiday Inn, Eight Ash Green just outside Colchester.
Once at the Holiday Inn car park everyone awaited the arrival of the East Anglia
members. Eventually Barry Love and his gang arrived but the Drivers Club and
IMOC lads were getting impatient as they wanted to continue onto another venue
near Southend where the IMOC were holding another meet. So half the cars
departed from the Holiday Inn.
It was an action packed day with lots going on so we hope everyone who joined in
had a good time.
