Monthly Pub Meetings
2004 was pretty much a non event for our regular monthly Sunday social
meetings, mainly due to other commitments and various other reasons. I feel now
its time for the rebirth of the meetings and put the spirit back into the club
as it was when we started in February 2002.
Monthly Pub Meeting Sunday 2nd November
2003
Despite the gloomy start to the day and the sharp
northern chill we had a good turn out for the meeting at the Church Mouse. It
was good to meet our latest member of the family, Bob Pollock from Cramilington
to the Club. Bob works for a company who supplies Ripspeed products to Halfords
and has kindly agreed to get any Ripspeed performance parts for us with a 25%
discount. He can also arrange ICE / Multimedia installation and professional
window tinting at very good discounted prices. If you are interested in any of
the services and discounts Bob can arrange then his contact details are: robertsenna@aol.com 07739207995
Cramlington. Bob brought along his very interesting 'SENNA' tribute car, not
that he's a Senna fan but a F1 enthusiast and regularly attends F1 events around
Europe.
Other members who attended the meeting were regulars John and Claire Moore,
Alan Jones, Mac and Jackie Sheavills, Steve and Andrea Raetag, Alan from
Sunderland, Stuart and Lesley Langford and Keith and Marie Smith, and lets not
forget little Joanne Thom in her now famous magazine featured MK1
From left - right Bob, Mac and Alan

Next months meeting will be a final run out for 2003 on Sunday
7th December to the Lake District. We plan to meet up with the North West region
at the Glen Rothay Hotel in Ambleside. For us north east members we will be
meeting at the Church Mouse at 09.15am for a 09.30 departure. Any members south
of the Church Mouse get in touch with me to arrange a collection point possibly
Durham Services on the A1M or Scotch Corner. Please get in touch with me by
email or telephone just so I know you are coming, I'm expecting a huge turn out
for this one as its the last one of the year and I know some of you will be
eager to get them tucked up in the garage for the winter.
For your information local member Paul Woods is the North's number one MR2
MK1 specialist and can undertake any work required from complete restorations,
engine swaps ( MK1 or MK2 turbo ) and resprays to basic jobs like servicing,
cambelts and brakes. Get in touch now for a very competitive quote, no job to

Elvington Track Day - The rebirth -
Saturday 4th October 2003
Its time we got the track car back where it belongs,
so we have decided to attend Bookatracks MR2 track day at Elvington Airfield in
York. Plans are a little sketchy at the moment but we hope to see as many
members there as possible to view all the goings on. Last years event was a real
corker and we are still talking about it now!
Let me know if you want to come along, you might even get a ride in it.
Come along and have a great day out with the club and see the North East
track car at its best - sideways!
With the monthly meet the day after this promises to be a great weekend of
club action!

Visit to Cars of The Stars Museum - Royal
Highland Showground Edinburgh - Sunday 5th October 2003
With all the show events we have been involved with
throughout the year the emphasis has been taken off runs out and about. I
thought it would be a good idea for Octobers meeting to have a run out north of
the boarder and visit the Cars of The Stars Museum in Ingliston Edinburgh. This
will also give us the opportunity to meet up with some of our members in
Scotland and indeed this event will be the 1st Club event held in Scotland. By
doing this I hope to give our members north of the boarder the opportunity to
experience a club get together.
The museum houses some of the more famous cars from the movies:
THE JAMES BOND COLLECTION
BATMOBILE
MAGNUM'S FERRARI
KIT
BACK TO THE FUTURE DELOREAN
HERBIE
PLUS MANY MORE
This really will be a great opportunity for the members in Scotland to get
together with members of the Club. Please get in touch with me to register your
interest as we will be required to let the museum know how many members will be
attending. The price on entry to the museum will be around £7. I look forward to
hearing from our Scotland members soon.
Pub Meeting - 6th July 2003
This was always going to be a meeting with a
difference with the unveiling of the UK's 1st ever DIY Karmeleon Kit conversion.
The owner of this beast is local member Dave Watchman who originally bought the
car from a guy called Ray for £900. Its a 1989 T-Bar with leather and was in a
bit of a state when purchased, arches, colour fade, the usual problems. 12 cars turned up for the big unveiling

Smiles of approval!

**** News Bulletin ****
I won't be able to attend Sunday's pub meeting on
the 2nd June as I will be over in the North West supporting Ryan Kevan and
members at the Tatton Park Show. Please note the pub meeting at the Church Mouse
in Durham will still be on, so please just turn up as usual and make yourselves
at home. We have decided that July's meeting will be a run out to Croft Circuit
where local member Mike Johnson is hoping to secure a MK1 club pitch for the RS
Owners Club track day meeting. I thought this might be a good day to have a
meeting to discuss this years plans for the north east track car. I will post
more information on this meeting as it comes in. Hope to see you all there.
Michael.
The weather forecast looked promising so I was confident of a good turn out
for the meeting. All together 10 MR2's turned up with Andy Green in his Mercedes
A class, his MR2 still under repair, Alan Jones in his Corsa, Supercharger still
bent!! and Keith Smith in his works car, his MR2 without a radiator, but he did
manage to source one from my parts collection. Oh, and let's not forget Andrew
Hudson in Claires Mazda MX5!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was contacted earlier by a local guy called Adam Bell who was looking to
spend around 3.5K on a MK1, his dream car. I suggested he came along to the
meeting to discuss buying an MR2 and to meet some of the members who owned them
for advice and guidance. At the same time member Michael Clemitson was looking
to sell his immaculate coupe reluctantly due to the announcement of a baby in
the near future. The two got together at the meeting and a deal was instantly
done. Therefore I'd like to welcome Adam to the club.
It was great to see a couple of new faces at the meeting and different cars,
more of this next time when all will be revealed. John and Claire Moore brought
their new baby along who was presented with a nifty suit with a great MK1
cartoon picture on the front and back, superbly made by Mike Johnson.
Next meeting on Sunday April 6th will be a visit to the rolling road
tuning centre at Well lane in Leeds, contact me for information on this.
This event will replace the trip to Diggerland which has been re-scheduled for
later in the year.
We had 10 cars but 18 people turned up.
Adam with his new purchase
Dave Moores new purchase, now all 3 brothers have white MK1's
I love the colour of this new members car, not mica blue but a
metallic bluey/grey, very nice
Recently purchased for £850 by our new member
Overall a great meeting, see you next month.
29th January 2003
We will now have a whole page each magazine
dedicated to bringing you information on what is happening in the north east
region of the club.
As always we meet on the first Sunday of each month at the Church Mouse
Innkeepers Lodge on the A167 between Chester-le-Street and Durham from 11.30am.
We would love you to come along and meet like minded enthusiastic members who
like nothing better than discussing and tinkering in the world of the MR2 MK1.
We are a very friendly, grass roots bunch and are keen on welcoming new members
to the club, so come along and see what's happening in your club. It's worth
noting that some monthly meetings are replaced by club runs around the region,
especially during the summer months, so please contact me before attending a
meeting to avoid any disappointment. We look forward to welcoming you to the
club in the north east.
Last year saw the birth of the region in February 2002 with our first monthly
pub meeting which set a precedent for other regions to follow. This trend has
proved very successful throughout the UK and today we now see new regions
developed in Wales, the South East, and the North West. Another first for the
club was the regional Christmas party which we held at the fantastic Lumley
Castle in December 2002. We had a superb night and have already booked a number
of rooms at the Eden Arms Hotel at Rushyford near Durham for our 2003 Christmas
bash, which will be held on the night of Saturday 13th December. If you would
like to come then contact me to discuss the arrangements, I know its early but
the sooner we have confirmed numbers the easier it will be for me to organise
things, which will mean a better deal for our members.
Lets talk about events. Last year we held 11 regional club events which
included our first classic car meeting at Bents Park in June 2002. Today we now
see the MK1 recognised as a true classic sports car, most of us already knew
this of course, however it's now official following the MK1's inclusion in the
2002 London to Brighton rally. I feel for this year it will be important for us
to get recognised more around the region and around the classic car rally scene.
To help us with this I have appointed club member Andrew Hudson as Classic Car
Rally Events Manager. Andrew has always had a good attendance at meetings and
always promotes the club at every opportunity. Already Andrew has 4 classic car
events in the pipeline, so watch this space. Here is a list of the provisional
planned events for 2003, give me a ring to discuss them in more detail,
alternatively check the north east newspage here on the club website for regular
updates.
February - Cobweb Run 2003 to Keilder Forest
March - Pub meeting at the Church Mouse / Track day
April - Rolling road tuning centre at Well lane in Leeds. Visit to Diggerland
at Langley Park ( JCB racing )!!!! Rescheduled for later in the year
May 4th Sunday - Ripon Classic Rally
May 25th-26th - Fins 'N' Chrome Show in Preston Park Stockton
June - Le Mans 2003 national event
June 28th-29th - Fire Engine and Historic Vehicle Rally, Preston Hall Museum,
Stockton on tees at Yarm.
July - Billing 2003 national event / 2003 North Of England Motorshow
August - Classic Event / Visit to The Cars Of The Stars Museum
September - Track Day
October - Pub meeting
November - Winter Run / to be announced
December - Pub meeting / regional Christmas party at Eden Arms Hotel
As well as these events we would like to get the track car project back
running, so anyone who can help us with performance parts, tyres, brakes etc.
please get in touch. Our first outing in the track car was a major success,
again another first for the club, we now have other regions desperate to follow
in the fun, thrills and excitement of the track car experience. We plan to
squeeze as many track day opportunities in as possible this year so watch out.
Other events we would like to attend this year are meetings at our local race
circuit Croft. They have not published their 2003 events calendar as yet, but
its likely we will attend the British F-3 Championship around May and the
British Touring Car Championship usually around July/August with a British
Rallycross event towards the end of the year.
I really would like our region to support a couple of national events this
year. These events give us the opportunity to travel around the UK and meet
other members from different regions around the country. Le Mans 2003 is really
going to be a bit special. This will now be my third visit to the fantastic
French circuit which we in the club treat as a holiday. Camping in the beautiful
Chateau de Chanteloup, enjoy a couple of days relaxing in the glorious Loire
countryside before sampling the greatest spectacle in motorsport, Le 24 Heures
Du Mans, fantastic. Let me know ASAP if you would like to book this event.
The clubs national rally/event is always held in late July at Billing
Aquadrome in Northampton during JAE weekend ( Japanese Auto Extravaganza ). Last
year we broke the record for most cars at an event which now stands at 54, this
year the club is going for 100 cars and they will need the help of north east
members, so come on lets give them our support at the clubs biggest national
rally.
As you can see there is a lot planned for the region this year. To make it a
success and worthwhile I really do need your local support, remember its your
club so get the most out of it. You are very lucky that you have one of the most
successful and active MR2 MK1 regions in the world, and its right on your
doorstep, so what you waiting for, get it out and play!!!

New Position Announcement
This year we plan to attend as many regional classic
car and transportation events and rallies as possible. Its important to the
club that we are involved within the classic car scene and continue to promote
the cars as true classic sports within that circle.
To assist me with this goal I have appointed local member Andrew Hudson as
Classic Events Manager. Already Andrew is putting together a package of Classic
events and rallies for us to attend in 2003.
If you have any ideas you would like to share with Andrew or any suggestions
or opportunities for the club then please contact Andrew who will be delighted
to take your call.

Run out at next meeting on
Sunday 2nd February 2003
We will be having a run out for next meeting to
Keilder Forest and surrounding areas. Martin Stacey who delivers parcels around
the area is going to do the mapping as he has local knowledge and knows some
great roads. It will be the usual run up, lunch somewhere, probably find a pub
and then a run back. The region will officially be 1 year old and I would very
much appreciate local support for this run. Meeting at Washington Services
Northbound at 10am next to Burger King and the petrol station, then Kingston
Park McDonalds at 10.25 to leave no later than 10.35.
Please could you inform me either way if you will be coming or not so I can
get the maps ready for you. Hope to see you all then.

Pub Meet Sunday 5th January 2003
It was good to see people turning up despite the
time of year and the weather. Becky Woods came in her new T-bar acquired by
swapping it for her old MK2, a good deal I would say. We met some new members,
Andy Green and Kim Bailey. We spotted them drooling over the 2 Superchargers in
the car park before realising they were members, so a very warm club welcome to
the both of you, I look forward to meeting you again at future meets. Over lunch
we discussed events for 2003, Andrew Hudson came up with some very good classic
car opportunities for us to get involved in. Another idea was to start a
Christmas club where we pay a little each month which goes towards paying for
the regional Christmas party in December - which looks like being held at the
Eden Arms Hotel at Rushyford. It was good to see Alan Jones again which overall
made a very good New Years pub meet. Next meeting will be a run out to Keilder
Forest, which we have named the Cobweb Run 2003, time to get the MR2 out and
play!!
Pub Meet - 6th October 2002
With 3 members entered in the local Great North Run
we still had a very good turn out this month including 3 new members, 2 who
arrived on spec through word of mouth, so a big welcome to Michael, Gary and
Anthony who we hope to see again next month. I had to attend the meeting in my
MK2 due to the head rebuild on my white t-bar, but I was not alone as member and
modification guru Paul Woods also came in his girlfriends MK2 due to the MK2
turbo SW20 engine Paul is currently fitting to his MK1, see Turbo MK1
Congratulations went to member John Moore who celebrated his 34th Birthday
today. His brother Phil suprised us all with a special Newcastle United cake
complete with candle, a nice thought. Whilst looking for a gift to give to John
I came across a book named '' The worlds fastest cars '', pages 194-195 features
the MR2 and has 2 nice pictures of a 1985 sherwood toning MK1. The perfect gift
I thought.
Phil Moore recently fitted a nice rear square number plate complete with club
logo and finished in a chrome TRD frame. Really looks the part and give the rear
end a touch of class.
We are glad Joanne Thom managed to make the meeting despite the argument she
had with several cones near Sedgefield. Unfortunately Joanne was forced off the
road by a rather large lorry and ploughed through quite a few cones. She was
fine, her MR2 wasn't with front spoiler damage, bonnet, bumper, offside wing,
rear quarter and a completely smashed drivers wing mirror. Most of the scratches
and scuffs polished out but 2 new front tyres and 2 new wing mirrors needed to
be purchased. She managed to get the mirrors from members Phil and John Moore
who sold her the parts for £20.
Most of the meeting conversation consisted of technical talk, we also
discussed our regional Christmas Party in December and next months meeting which
will be a run out to Goatland, the village where they film Heartbeat, and the
coastal town of Whitby famous for its encounter of Dracula. If you would like to
attend next months run please contact me to book your place, please note this
run is open to all UK members and indeed non members as long as you have a MK1
MR2.
Spot the outcast trying to gatecrash the party!!!! In line Becky's MK2, John
Moore's Coupe, Phil Moores Coupe, Michael Sheavills Supercharger and Joanne
Thom's damaged Coupe.

Mazda MX5 Run Sunday 7th July 2002
I approached the Tyne Tees region of the MX5 Club to
ask them if they would be interested in a get together. They swiftly replied and
invited us as guests on a club run through spectacular North Yorkshire.
We set off early in convoy from Durham in a mixture of MR2's and MX5's and
stretched as far as the eye could see and boy these guys and girls don't hang
about. The route was excellent and well planned out and were well suited to the
chassis of the MR2. I was really impressed to with the handling and performance
of the MX5, similar cars but I think the MR2 just edges it!!
Later in the afternoon after a breathtaking run we relaxed for afternoon tea
at Horsely Hall, former home of Kevin Keegan and enjoyed a lovely selection of
cream buns, oh how the other half live!!
A great day, thanks to the MX5 club.

August Meet 2002
There will be no pub meeting on Sunday August 4th as
the club has a huge stand at the North East Motorshow at Newcastle racecourse on
the 3rd and 4th. Come along and visit our stand.
Septembers meeting on Sunday 3rd will be the usual pub meeting at 11.30
followed by a visit to Warden Law, an outdoor full length Karting circuit, more
info and prices to follow. If you want to go please let Joanne know.
Wednesday 10th July 2002
Sad news came tonight from North East member Martin
Stacey who rang me in complete distress. His mica blue MK1 Coupe, my old car had
just been hit by a run-away Landrover Discovery. Apparently the Landrover was
fitted with a multi-lock which only locks the car in neutral and the owner
hadn't put the hand brake on properly. Damage is as follows. Front wings
buckled, bonnet bent, front bumper bent and badly damaged and offside alloy
chipped. Hopefully the car will be ready for Billing, lets wish him luck
Bond MK1 MR2 Update
I recently went to see what I believed was one of the oldest MK1 MR2's in the
world, VIN 007 owned in the north east. This turned out to be a Bond Bug as the
chassis number revealed 27007, a huge disappointment. However further
investigations has lifted my spirits as I have found out the car I went to see
WASN'T the one member Paul Woods has spotted earlier. Paul is convinced
the car's VIN was JTCAW110000007 and was owned by an older guy than the
guy I met with Bond 007 and had a different registration plate, the search
continues...........
Dumped MK1 in the North East
We discovered an abandoned MK1 in fairly poor condition recently in a local
village near Stanley, Co.Durham. Member Paul Woods contacted the council who
authorised us to take the car away for our own purposes. The car is now at
Paul's business location in Durham.
The main purpose of taking the car is for Paul to conduct a dummy roof chop
where he is planning a full convertable conversion on his own early MK1. He
plans to modify an MG ragtop to fit the MK1. For the rest of the car he has
kindly agreed to allow North East members to come and take whatever they want
from it at NO CHARGE. Be quick parts are going by the day.
Enquiries please contact Paul Woods paul@14beechdale.freeserve.co.uk
Billing Convoy
The North East Billing Convoy will be leaving the Church Mouse at 10am on
Friday 26th July. We hope to arrive at the aquadrome around 3pm with enough time
to pitch a good spot on the Billing Bank. Mileage from the Church Mouse via A1M,
M18, M1 - junction 15 will be 218. These are the names of confirmed North East
Members.
Michael Sheavills, Joanne Thom, Mac Sheavills, Martin Stacey, John Moore,
Phil Moore, Alan Jones, Rob Copeland, Paul Woods, Michael Clementson.
If you own a MK1 MR2 and are not in the club then why not join us and see
what its all about.
Sunday 7th July 2002
We had an excellent day for the 1st joint club
meeting with the Tyne-Tees region of the Mazda MX-5 Club. The run was well
planned out and featured some of the most spectacular roads in Britain. The day
was finished off with a lovely afternoon tea at Horsley Hall, the former home of
Kevin Keegan. Thanks to the MX5 boys and girls for a superb day. See Claire
Moores fantastic report.
We now have a North East Club banner with the new logo on it. The banner is
8ft by 2ft and was made by Signs, Signs, Signs in Blaydon Tyne and Wear who have
done a fantastic job. Thanks to Andrew Hutton for his kind donation towards the
cost of the banner.
Monday 24th June 2002
The Bents Park Classic Show on Sunday June 23rd was
a huge success, 14 cars in total on an impressive stand, thanks to all the
members who were involved in this event and prepared their cars to a very high
standard. The winners were:
Best Car Bents Park - Andrew Hudson
2nd. - Doris Sanderson
3rd. - Mike Johnson / Viv Allison
Well done to all the winners. See report for more at: Bents Park 2002
28th MAY 2002 MEET UP WITH THE MX-5 CLUB

I have decided to change the time of next months
meeting from the usual time of 11.30 to 4pm later that afternoon as England will
be playing their opening game at 10.30 against Argentina. Instead of lunch we
plan to have a light afternoon tea and hopefully celebrate a good victory over
the Argies!!
Pub Meet Sunday 5th May 2002
With the white t-bar in the body shop getting some much needed treatment to
the top of the windscreen for the Sports car show at the NEC later in May, it
gave me a good excuse to bring the SC to the monthly North East pub meet, a rare
opportunity as my dad usually gets to the keys first.
Shortly after I arrived at the Church Mouse in Durham with member Joanne Thom
we were approached by a red MK1 T-bar which belonged to Alan and Dion. He had
seen information about the meets on the clubs website and decided to stop off to
see what all the fuss was about. Alan had only purchased the car the previous
week but it was good to see he hadn't lost that infamous smile you get just
after you have purchased your MR2, I've still got mine after 2 years!!!
Unfortunately Alan and Dion couldn't stay for the meet but I did get the
opportunity to give him a club membership flyer.
We had a North East club record as the eighth car arrived, something to do
with the superb costa del geordie weather. I brought along some information on
the Chateau in France where we will be staying throughout the Lemans week to try
and tempt some people to come. I also brought along some old magazines and
brochures relating to the MK1, which sparked a mass of interest. Phil and Helen
Moore brought along their newly born baby who stole the day after arriving in
style in Phil’s MR2.
Please note if you are thinking about coming along to our monthly meet get in
touch as we sometimes have runs out if the weathers good. We are also
considering trying other pubs around the region to try and stretch out to all
our North East members.
Once again thanks to all the members who made the effort. Look forward to
seeing you all on Sunday 2nd June 2002.
MICHAEL SHEAVILLS
NUMBER 1 – 16th March 2002
Dear North East Members,
Welcome to the first issue of the Northeast web-based newsletter. The
advantage we will have is to be able to keep you informed on a daily basis about
what is happening in the region rather than relying on the quarterly magazine.
It’s worth checking the clubs website regularly as new information is always
being added. As a region we meet on the first Sunday of each month at the Church
Mouse near Chester-le-Street at 11:30am. The pub has been thoughtfully selected
for a number of reasons. Firstly its location is ideally situated in the middle
of our region and conveniently a few miles from the A1M. Secondly the service
and traditional food on offer is of a very high quality. We look forward to
seeing you there in the near future.
Please note that some meetings are replaced by club runs around the region,
so please check and ring me for information if you wish to attend.
Directions:- From the A1M leave at junction 63 Chester-le-Street/Stanley and
follow the A167 to Durham. Straight-ahead over three roundabouts, you will find
the pub a quarter of a mile ahead on the left. Please note members (And
non-members as long as you have a MK1 MR2) from all of the UK are more than
welcome to attend any of our meetings. If you require accommodation then the
Church Mouse has an Inn Keeper’s Lodge next door. Prices from £42.50 per room,
per night including breakfast. For room reservations call 0870 243 0500. We held
our first meet on 3rd February 2002 and had a tremendous turn out. See North East Area Meet
Our second meeting held on the 3rd March was a run out to the Lake District.
We had a fantastic turn out for the trip and I’m confident every member who
attended has a superb time. See link to Lakes report. Lakes Run
For April there will be the usual pub meeting on the 7th - Stop Press - we
went Stock Car Racing - see report at Barford mini meet
Next event is the long awaited ‘Northumberland Coast Run’ on the 28th April.
We will be leaving Washington services on the A1M at 10:30am. Contact me if you
wish to come. Please note this is a national event and is open to all club
members. See Northumbeland
Coast Run
We have around 35 members in the Northeast at the moment so please support
the club and help us promote our fantastic sports cars. I am looking for members
in our region to come forward with ideas for runs, motoring events and sports
car shows. So please contact me with your ideas.
Are you proud of your car? Would you like to show it off? Well in that case
I’m looking for you. We now have a stand for the Derby Motorshow on Sunday 7th
July and I’m looking for members who would like to display their pride and joy.
Don’t worry about the condition, every car is more than eligible. I would like a
good turn out from our region so please contact me if you would like the
opportunity to display your car at a show. Already we have 5 cars confirmed.
To build a strong regional communication link I would very much appreciate it
if you could send me your e-mail addresses. If you would like me to display who
you are on this page then it could be arranged where other members could contact
you. I could even feature your car. So please send me any pictures or
information about your MR2. New member Paul Woods from Burnhope in Co.Durham has
just done a fantastic article on an LPG conversion, see link. LPG Conversion

We
approached Karmeleon Ltd to offer then the opportunity to come up to the north
east and officially unveil the birth of their very own creation, this one
naturally being a little different as its the first one not done by Karmeleon
themselves. Unfortunately they were not able to come so we decided to trace down
former owner Ray who was delighted when asked.
'' Hi Ray, its Dave
Watchman, remember, I bought your MR2 from you last year. I have been working on
the car a little and have done a small amount of cosmetic improvements !!! I
would very much appreciate it if you could come to the Church Mouse on Sunday at
11.45am and officially unveil the car to our group of club members at our
monthly pub meet ''
Ray - ''Yes Dave I would be delighted, see you there

Once we had the traditional unveiling speeches from Dave, Ray and
indeed MR2 guru Paul Woods, the mechanic who’s genius and inspiration created
this icon, it was time to unveil. Well what a surprise Ray had when he pulled
away the cover to reveal the KARMELEON. Jaws dropped as there stood before us,
was this magnificent piece of art, shining and glimmering in all its splendour.
Paul Woods what a job you have done, huge credit to you. Paul has
practically spent the last 6 months of his life working on the project and I
know at times it was very tough. But you kept your chin up and got on with the
job, well done mate. Thanks also to Mac Sheavills who's brilliant engineering
skills created the huge rear wheel spacers that are a vital part to the cars
look, the spacers were precision machined, and are another piece of art, so well
done. Thanks to Ray too for giving up his Sunday morning and coming along to
unveil the car. Last but not least thanks to Dave Watchman for having the balls
to go for a DIY version in the first place.
The unveiling kind of stole the
show at the meeting, but we did have a meeting. There were some new faces who
came along to see what all the fuss was about, it was nice to meet you all and I
hope to see you all again in future meetings.
Phil Moore came along with his
newly fitted twin piped Lotus Elise exhaust (engineered and fitted by Paul
Woods) and I have to say it looks and sounds fantastic, so there you have
it another 1st conversion in the north east.
An unusual arrival was a guy
who arrived in a 2CV Dolly who was looking to buy a MK1. Strangely this guy was
massively into the 2CV and collected them and restored them, so a blast up the
A167 in Paul's MK1 certainly did the trick and convinced him the bird cage just
didn't make him tick anymore!
Over lunch we discussed the up and coming
JAE weekend trip. We have 6 cars travelling down on the Friday morning
and we hope to meet up with the north west group en route and arrive together.
If anyone wants to come, then get in touch immediately to discuss the
arrangements.
Another topic we discussed is the ''Car Show North East''
which will be organised by John Moore and held at Newcastle racecourse on
August 9th - 10th. This is the biggest and most prestigious car show of
the year in the north east, and attracts a number of major manufactures to the
show. We have a space for 20 cars and would really like to fill every space.
This event is national and not only restricted to north east members, so give
John a ring 0191 2370027 / 07799146743 to register, we already have 9
cars committed, so give John a ring now to avoid disappointment. Remember if you
are travelling to the region and need somewhere to stay, we can recommend lots
of nice places.
Sadly missed at the meeting were MIke and Viv who were
already committed to the RS Owners track day at Croft. Mike Johnson is an avid
track day enthusiast as well as a great driver on the track. Mike is famous in
the MR2 world for his sideways-on track activities. Look out for Mikes track day
report, which will be appearing here soon (if I can persuade him to do one!)
See you all at Billing!
