North East Motorshow - Newcastle
Racecourse Saturday and Sunday 9th and 10th August 2003
The North East's highly prestigious Motorshow once again
was always a priority on our regional club calendar for 2003. After the
success of last year John Moore once again kindly agreed to organise the event
with the view that it would be a little easier this year as we already have a foot in the door.
It's always a little difficult to rally the troops for shows
during July and August as this is normally the holiday hot spot and everyone
is away. With this in mind it was very encouraging to see a good selection of
members coming forward with their cars for the stand.
This years stand was massive and in the best available spot
right in front of the Russell Spinx car demonstrations along with 2 highly
talented trials bike riders performing amazing manoeuvres across obscene obstacles.
We had a lot of interest from the public enquiring about
the cars and club, as there was only ourselves and the Scimitar Club this
played to our advantage as there wasn't much else to look at apart from dealership cars and offers.
I had only bought the week before a new MK1 T-Bar in
helious blue from a guy over in Scarborough who needed shot of it quickly. I
decided to give it a run out and take it to the show to show the rest of the
group. My intentions were to fully restore the car back to showroom condition
and give the car to my mother, so I thought it would be a useful exercise to
let the public see where certain problems appear on the MK1 over time, rear
arches and above the windscreen. It wasn't however my intention to sell the
damn thing!! As you know it's easy to fall in love with these cars and indeed
that's what happened to a member of the public, Don from Alnwick who, once he
saw the car he knew this was the one for him. Don himself is highly into 2CV's
and has driven them enthusiastically around Europe, a little different to the
MR2 but in my opinion change is good. I have to say well done to Don for
finally managing to persuade me to part with my new project, a deal was done
and the car was sold, I was a little sad to see it go before I really got to
know her as I felt it would have been a long and rewarding affair as the car
was a little cracker.
Towards the end of the weekend show we gave out our
traditional trophies and awards, here are the results.
