RIPON CLASSIC - SUNDAY 2nd MAY 2004

The Ripon Classic is always the first show of the year and a good chance to apply that all important first layer of wax polish to the car. With Andrew Hudson busy with wedding plans I decided to take the pressure from him and organise this years event. This actual event clashed with so many events in the club, the British F-3 Championship at Croft, the Derbyshire Peak run and the North Yorks Dales run. But we had to make a decision to attend one and it was the classic and autojumble that won the votes.

With Le Mans looming just around the corner Steve and Jo Austin came up with a great idea of having a trial pre Le Mans get together at their farm near Ripon and then attend the show the following day. What they really meant was that it was a good opportunity to get the tents out of their bags, air them out, check all was there, see how much camping gear you can actually fit into a MK1 and how much alcohol you can consume in one night!! Steve and Jo put on a great evening with music, BBQ and alcoholic refreshments.

The next day we set off early and headed to Ripon racecourse to meet up with the rest of the club exhibitors. The following people attended the show:
Michael Sheavills andJoanne Thom
Mike Johnson and Viv Allison
Steve and Jo Austin
Graham and Louise Crook
Mark and Sharon Richardson
Gordon and Allison Moffett
Steve and Andrea Raettig
Andrew and Claire Hudson ( As of 10th July 2004 )
Peter Key
Jim and Mary Ledden

We had a great spot at the show and quickly set up the stand. Armed with gazebo, club banner, Toyota bunting and Toyota flag the end result was impressive. Mike Johnson brought along a board with information relating to his Supercharger with printouts of a rolling road test which gained a lot of interest. The day was a scorcher, really dry, so we were quite lucky there. The cars looked beautiful, really shiny and well presented so well done to everyone who made the effort. At the end of the show we headed back to Steve and Jo's farm to pack away out tents and belongings. Overall a great club weekend, a taste of Le Mans and what that has to offer along with a superb show. Thanks again to everyone who made the effort, we need this support.
