Welcome to the Le Mans 2006 web page. Before we really begin take a look at the past 5 years reports.

As you can see from past reports this really is a trip of a lifetime and one that MUST be experienced, this event really is the true spirit of what this club is all about. I'm delighted to be looking after Le Mans 2006 and will ensure that every member has the trip of a lifetime.

In order to ensure that the trip runs smoothly I'm giving members a little more responsibility. In previous years it has always been difficult booking the Chateau for a club pitch as just about everyone arrives and leaves at different times. This year I'll be asking members to do the following:

1 - Decide you want a trip of a life time and let me know you plan to come to Le Mans 2006. I'll need home address and telephone number along with email address.

2 - Decide on timescale of the trip and book your ferry crossing. Have a good shop around for prices as they are very varied. I've just paid £60 for a 7 day return crossing Dover - Calais with SeaFrance ( http://www.seafrance.co.uk/ ) Book early before February for BIG savings. Once you have booked your ferry again let me know.

3 - Book you stay with the Chateau Du Chanteloup. ( http://www.chateau-de-chanteloup.com/) Let Dominique know exactly when you will arrive and depart. In your email tell Dominique you will be camping with the Toyota MR2 MK1 Club. Please don't make bookings till February 2006.

Now the important dates are as follows - These are my own plans to give you an idea:

Day 1 Tuesday 13th June 2006

Depart Dover on the 08.15 ferry, arrive at Chateau approximately 16.00pm local time, set up camp and let the party begin.

Day 2 Wednesday 14th June 2006

Free time, chill out at the Chateau, enjoy the facilities such as the pool and games room or visit local attractions, Le Mans town, local zoo, or the spectacular Loire Valley.

Day 3 Thursday 15th June 2006

Free time again to enjoy this wonderful part of France. On this day we normally visit the circuit and watch a bit of qualifying.

Day 4 Friday 16th June 2006

'Mad Friday' - read previous reports on this amazing experience.

Day 5 and 6 Saturday 17th - Sunday 18th June 2006

Race weekend, the greatest spectacle in motor racing. Its hard to describe this weekend you have to be there to experience the thrills and excitement of what the Le Mans spirit is all about, spectacular......!

Day 7 Monday 19th June 2006

Spend the day chilling out and recharging those batteries.

Day 8 Tuesday 20th June 2006

Travel back to Calais for afternoon ferry crossing.

Some members like Richard and Rachael Morgan for example, stay on for a 2 week holiday. The first year they visited the Loire Valley, the second year they toured Normandy, and this year had a great time exploring Brittany. This year Richard plans to head off south after the race, to the French Riviera.

Its early days but 2006 will see an astonishing amount of interest, therefore its vital that we are all organised. Its a difficult task organising such an ambitious event such as Le Mans therefore its vital that you keep me informed with information regarding your trip.

I'm now active with organising this event as from Monday 5th December 2005 so what are you waiting for?............... I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Subject:Hi
I have just been reading with interest some of your trips to the 24 hour in France. It looks an absolute blast. I am in the process of rebuilding 3 MK1 MR2s, one for myself, one for my 20 year old son, and one for my neighbour. What would the costs be for the trip per vehicle for the week? I am hoping to have them all complete by the beginning of April just having a few part price problems at the moment.
Cheers
Steve Watts

Steve,
Sounds like a fantastic project you have going there. Well you are in good hands for the trip should you decide you want the best time of your life. I organised the very 1st trip and have looked after the past 5 for the Club. I'm also a member and have a modest collection of 5 MK1's and MX5 and a 1996 RS2000.
SeaFrance have some good early booing offers at the moment for £60 per car return which is excellent value, I've paid as much as £250 for one car...!!
If you can get the crossings booked early so its done. We will be crossing over from Dover on Tuesday 13th June on the 08.15 crossing and coming back on the 20th at 14.10pm.
Space Availability confirmed
Outward Dover to Calais Tue 13 Jun at 08:15
Inward Calais to Dover Tue 20 Jun at 14:15
Details Adult : 2
  Vehicle: Car   (e771 ydy), L=5m, H=1.5m

Fare

AUTUMN/WINTER EW3 - £70.00

I've just looked on Seafrance website and its quoting £70 per car at the moment so its going up all the time.
Ok fuel is going to cost you roughly £60 once in France, it obviously depends where you are coming from in the UK, for example I'm coming from Durham so there's an extra £60 for me.
The Chateau charges roughly £10 per night based on 2 people a tent and a car.
So to sum up the trip costs around £200 EACH:
Ferry £70
Fuel £60
Chateau £80
Circuit entrance £40 (5 day pass which is obtained once there)
Food and drink roughly £150
£400 for 2 people, roughly
Any more info don't hesitate to contact me, lets hope you decide to come as this years going to be really special with a huge MK1 Club turnout.
Cheers

Things to do in and around Le Mans

During the week leading up to Le Mans 24h you will find that you have a bit of spare time on your hands, here's a few suggestions of things to see and do whilst there.

Towns, History, Castles, Food and Drink.
The Loire valley is renowned for its beautiful white sandstone chateaux and is known as "the Garden of France"; it was the favourite residence of Kings of France during the Renaissance period. This is the "country of a thousand castles": not only Royal Castles and Renaissance Palaces but also Manors, Castles and Fortresses from the Middle Ages.
The Medieval City of Angers has a fortress built by Famous King St Louis in 13C. Its 17 round towers made of dark schist and white stone houses the oldest and largest tapestry in the world: The Apocalypse Tapestry. Angers is the home of the world famous Cointreau. On the edge of town you can find the Cointreau Museum which explains everything about this orange liqueur. http://www.cointreau.com/index2.htm

The village of Montreuil-Bellay is only 18 miles away and has a wonderful 11th-century fortress with 13 interlocking towers. The fortified gateway leads visitors to a 15th-century house featuring ancient wine cellars and 15th-century frescoes. Montreuil-Bellay also has the "Promenade J.R.R. Tolkien" which meanders from the foot of the majestic chateau on the hill and along the river, in a setting in which one can imagine the fantasy of the "Lord of the Rings", complete with cave dwellings, ancient trees and towers, and this set in a region where the reality of its myth and history seems to mirror closely some of the majestic sweep of the book's imagination. The village and the river beneath it are a pleasure to walk around with some fine restaurants by the Chateaux and on the banks of the river. 14 miles from Montreuil-Bellay is the royal abbey of Fontevraud. This abbey became the favourite of the Plantagenets and Eleanor of Acquitaine The four gisants, or effigies, lying before the sacristy are Eleanor herself and her husband Henry the II Plantagenet, Richard the lionheart, their son, and Isabelle of Angouleme. Close to the abbey is the medieval city of Chinon , which is well worth a visit. In the Middle Ages, Chinon was developed during the reign of Henry II, Henry Plantagenet, and Count of Anjou, crowned King of England in 1154. The castle was rebuilt and extended, becoming one of his favourite residences.
Fontevraud
Thouras, a town only 25 minutes away, has a market every Friday, which is not to be missed. It is not put on for tourists but a genuine French country market. The old part of this town is also very attractive with a good assortment of small shops, restaurant and bars. A local market can be found nearly every day in one village or another. There are many Chateaux within driving distance of the static home. Only 17 miles away from the campsite is the Chateau de Brissac, the "Giant of Loire Valley". Brissac is an, unusual castle. From the 15C fortress remains only two towers juxtaposed to the 17C unfinished castle which was intended to replace the older one. With its seven stories it is taller than all the Royal Castles of Loire Valley. http://www.chateau-brissac.fr/
Chateau de Brissac
Close to the campsite is the small Fairytale Chateaux, the Château d'Ussé, a real dreamlike castle and home of the "Sleeping Beauty", approx 40 miles away.
